the moth is
outside
in the
night
fluttering
against my window
the moth is
trying
to get in
but
i can't
allow
that
to happen

more death
it was my aunt's funeral today. my great aunt, to be precise. out of the funerals that i have attended so far, great auntie connie was by far the most religious. the vicar man said she was in no doubt where she was going. i thought that was nice. it's good to be sure of something, even if you are totally wrong.
there was nothing ornate about the church we sat in. behind the altar though was a great big window. just plain glass, criss-crossed with lead strips. and it was like the interface between our earth and immortality. i sort of understood a little bit better about why people believe things, and i was envious.
great auntie connie had specified how she wanted her funeral done. the three hymns she chose were:
all things bright and beautiful
amazing grace
how great thou art
two comments:
1. for someone who attended church regularly, she might well have chosen some more esoteric numbers. no-one could have blamed her for that. yet she resisted, to her credit.
2. all things bright and beautiful contains a line about 'purple headed mountains'. this is a veiled reference to cocks, in my opinion.
it was nice that the vicar man actually knew the deceased. and i'll forgive him his showboating, singing harmonies in the hymns. so i'll give this funeral SEVEN out of ten.
